How Much of a Toll Are Drugs Taking on the Youth of Today?
If there’s one topic that’s guaranteed to be greeted with as much disdain as confusion; it’s drug abuse. Narcotics come in a range of strengths, shapes and sizes; from the types that are considered fairly minimalistic in nature, right through to the variants that can actually be fatal if consumed, ingested, or injected.
The battle against drug use has only recently taken the stance that it has and as these narcotics become ever more available, it’s never been more important than right now to educate the masses on their use and abuse. At American Youth Against Drugs we understand more than most just how much of a priority it is to receive proper education against drug taking – and with abuse on the rise, now’s the best time to act.
What Constitutes As Drug Abuse?
It’s estimated that 1 in 4 people in the US, and 1 in 6 people within Australia, will be exposed to drugs at least once in their lifetimes. With the prospect of peer pressure looming on the horizon for adolescents, not to mention the tendency for newer narcotics to enter the mainstream wherever the youth of today are present; it doesn’t always take long for an occasional activity to turn into a full dependency.
Drug abuse is defined as an act of narcotic dependency, to a point where an individual may find themselves unable to function without getting their latest fix.
In teenagers and adolescents, where the mind is still developing and habits can be easier to occur; it’s not uncommon to hear that these types of victims go on to find themselves addicted to narcotics for years, if not decades, without seeking help. Even drugs that are considered fairly minimal (such as cannabis) when compared to other types can soon take their toll on a person’s body; affecting their mentality just as much as their physical attributes.
Without the proper treatment these minor addictions can soon lead to long term dependencies – and with the chemicals within narcotics demanding ever-more increasing doses, it won’t be long before a sufferer moves on to harsher alternatives. At AYAD the only thing that we want to do is to help those that are facing addictions and dependencies, to recover and lead a clean, sober life.
It’s never too late to get off of a habit and with such a great range of free rehabilitation centres, self-help facilities and medical treatments available; now’s a great time to get started on a recovery course. Drugs are taking a huge toll on youths and for every drug-bust that takes place, thousands more narcotics are being developed; some of which use products that can be found at home. To combat this people need to come together and tackle the issue where it’s at its most severe – at the manufacturing plants – whilst caring for those suffering and helping them to overcome their addictions.
