Holidays and Travel

Living and working in a developing country offers you great opportunities to discover new cultures and explore new places. AYADs are encouraged to travel within their Host Country and their region while they are on assignment and uncover the richness and diversity of the countries where they are working. It's also a great opportunity to invite your family and friends to visit and discover where you've been working and what you've been doing.

AYADs earn five working days of paid leave for every three months of service (so if you go on a 12 month assignment you will have four weeks of annual leave).  Just like in Australia, you must negotiate your leave with your workplace (your Host Organisation) and you will need to let your In Country Manager (ICM) know the details of any travel (so they can contact you in an emergency).

AYADs can choose to return to Australia or travel internationally during their holidays and these costs (and the necessary visas) are the responsibility of the individual AYAD.

When travelling, AYADs must abide by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade travel advisories. These can be found at www.smarttraveller.gov.au.
